Will I suddenly wake one day from a moment of daydreaming to discover my time has come at last?

Will my eyes see a new beginning and my hands finally drop the past that I had gripped tightly onto, and find it had withered away...

Invisible Horizon

Part four

The sun was warm, it was a gorgeous day. Gwen had not done anything out of the ordinary in a long time. Today was the day.

She headed down to the beach and found a place to park right away - it was a good sign she thought.

The path along the beach was crowded with vendors and tourists. She could hear the sounds of lapping waves, seagulls and families enjoying their day at the shoreline.

Gwen stopped along her walk to admire the artists at work, breathe in the fragrant flowers for sale and appreciate the large selection of produce.

The morning was splendid as she walked the path, stopping from time to time at benches along the way. From there, she could sit, close her eyes, feel the warmth of the sun and let her mind daydream the memories she kept of tomorrows she wished could be.

A shopping bag filled with produce now weighted her arm
. She readjusted her purse and the bag, trying to offset the weight. The crowds were thinning, the day was going to quickly.

Gwen turned to walk towards her car and was surprised to see Casey standing there. The sun, almost directly overhead, reflected off the sand. Casey moved closer to Gwen, extending the bouquet of 24 roses.

Gwen smiled.

Casey exchanged the shopping bag in her hand for the flowers.

As she stepped toward him, he reached for her hand. Taking it in hers, she squeezed it gently.

It hurts
My head hangs
I'm scared
The dream - gave out
Darkness is flooding my life
What I had hold of, has disappeared
Can I trust that when I close my eyes
I will wake up to try, yet again, another day

Invisible Horizon

Part three

"Can I walk you to your car?"

She didn't recognize the voice. She looked over her shoulder as she took a step backward. For the moment, all she could do was stare at him.

"Thank you, that's nice of you," was all she could think of to say. For their first time in some form of conversation, she wished her words held more eloquence.

She ran her hand through her hair in a nervous manner.

The short walk across the par
king lot was silent but was obviously from their expressions, delightful.

She unlocked the car door and he opened it. He took her one empty hand in his. For a moment their eyes met. Both had been waiting for a moment such as this. Both wondering what would come next.

"By the way Gwen, my name is Casey,"

She wondered how he knew her name.

"Well then Casey, thanks for walking me to my car. It's nice to meet you."

She sat behind the steering wheel and turned on the ignition.

Casey shut the door for her.

Gwen found herself sealing this moment to memory.

Expectations

I am having a quandary with expectations - meeting them - receiving them - understanding them.

If you are unsure - If you have never had opportunities to state expectations, then you can be at a loss...like me....of how to begin.

Invisible Horizon

Part two

Starbucks, early morning hour, extra hot chai tea on the table beside her. Fingers clicking away on the keyboard propped in her lap. The location was ideal for her, having full view of both the coffee shop and a portion of the world through the large window. Everything from counting snowflakes in winter to watching strangers passing by were always a welcome and gave her a break from her humdrum days.

It was then that she noticed he was there. The mas
culine stranger she had seen at the office the other day or had it been weeks now. He had been working his way to a table when he caught sight of her, if for no other reason than she was alone.

They exchanged a knowing nod and slight smile. He lowered his eyes as he removed his brown suede jacket. She dared to continue her long hard look as he set his coat on the back of a chair, adjusting it as if on someones shoulder. He ran his fingers through his hair as he sat to read the morning paper.

She felt her heart quicken.
