Invisible Horizon

Part four

The sun was warm, it was a gorgeous day. Gwen had not done anything out of the ordinary in a long time. Today was the day.

She headed down to the beach and found a place to park right away - it was a good sign she thought.

The path along the beach was crowded with vendors and tourists. She could hear the sounds of lapping waves, seagulls and families enjoying their day at the shoreline.

Gwen stopped along her walk to admire the artists at work, breathe in the fragrant flowers for sale and appreciate the large selection of produce.

The morning was splendid as she walked the path, stopping from time to time at benches along the way. From there, she could sit, close her eyes, feel the warmth of the sun and let her mind daydream the memories she kept of tomorrows she wished could be.

A shopping bag filled with produce now weighted her arm
. She readjusted her purse and the bag, trying to offset the weight. The crowds were thinning, the day was going to quickly.

Gwen turned to walk towards her car and was surprised to see Casey standing there. The sun, almost directly overhead, reflected off the sand. Casey moved closer to Gwen, extending the bouquet of 24 roses.

Gwen smiled.

Casey exchanged the shopping bag in her hand for the flowers.

As she stepped toward him, he reached for her hand. Taking it in hers, she squeezed it gently.
